IC 5146 " Cocoon Nebula" in Cygnus
2005 August 8-9th for RGB 28-29th for Ha from my back
light polluted garden in Leigh on Sea, Essex, UK
Televue TVNP101 100mm APO refractor 540mm fl.
Sbig ST4 auto guided in RA, manual guided in DEC.
Starlight Xpress HX916 CCD camera
True Tech colour filters through IDAS light pollution reduction filter for RGB.
Astronomic Ha filter for Luminance.
HaRGB image total exposure 3hrs 25 mins Ha 115 mins. RGB 30mins 1x1 each colour,
all 5 minute sub
exposures.
North is to the Right of this image and
the frame is approx 50 arc minutes wide. A
dark obscuring nebula, in which the cocoon is embedded, can be detected by the
lack of stars towards the 5 O'clock position from the nebula.
The seeing was very poor during the Ha exposures. Several of the images were
unusable due to the effects of the atmospheric turbulence.
I was having all sorts of problems with the Autoguider control and ended up manually guiding in Declination for over 3.5 hours !!.
